Last three remaining of the northern white rhinos

  • Of the measly four northern white rhinos remaining in the entire world, with 3 of them at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, the 4th one, “Nola” at San Diego Safari Zoo Park, died recently due to old age and bacterial infection.
  • Northern white rhinos were declared to be on the brink of extinction way back in 2008 as a result of large scale poaching undertaken for their horns. Nola was brought to the San Diego Park as part of a breeding program in order to preserve the species.
  • Scientists are attempting to assess the difference between the northern and southern white rhinos but are still unsure if they are of the same kind.
